Child written reviews of popular Ontario attractions, events, resorts and vacations

When parents are trying to plan family holidays and activities for their kids, sometimes the best opinions come from kids themselves! The saying "out of the mouth of babes" should remind you that kids don't hold back much and are giving you a true review of how an experience was for them.
With that said, 411ontariokids.com is pleased to provide parents with reviews of ontario family attractions, events, activities and holidays written by KIDS!
REVIEW OF THE 2012 BORDEN AIR SHOW
by Karine from Stayner, ON
This past week-end, I went to the Base Borden Air Show. The show included many activities. There were lots of planes and great demonstrations. My favorites were the Snowbirds and the F-18. My brother also liked the F-18 because it is loud. There were lots of vendors offering great food and beverages and souvenirs. I got to visit a museum and see different parts of training to be a military, either to be in the Air Force, Army, Navy or Military Police. Considering it was a hot day, the best part was the kiddie commando. It was an obstacle course filled with lots of attractions like rope climbing, crawling and throwing grenades. I had a great time at the Air Show.
REVIEW OF THE ELMVALE MAPLE SYRUP FESTIVAL 2012
by Karine from Stayner, ON
Recently I went to the Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival. It was really fun!! When I got to the Festival, I went on tons and tons of rides with my brother and his friend. They have lots of great rides there. For older and for younger kids. My favorite was the Spider. My brother and his friend liked the flying teacups and the funhouse. After the rides, we went into the Hall. We visited many booths and learned different things about Maple Syrup. We got balloons and candy. My favorite booth was the chocolate stand. We got free samples of milk chocolate. Their work was extraordinary!! They had chocolate in the shape of tools, of flowers, of trains, of hearts and they EVEN HAD A CHOCOLATE WEDDING CAKE!!Then we went out to see the vendors on the street. I devoured Maple Walnut Fudge, Cinnamon Tiny Tom doughnuts, Kettle Corn and the best of all… FRESH LEMONADE WITH MAPLE SYRUPM IN IT!!! Yummy!!! It was nice to see many of the handcrafted items. My favorite was the stand that sold accessories. They sold beautiful jewellery, brooches, key chains, bird whistlers and wooden instruments. Most of it was homemade. We also bought homemade maple syrup. It was hard to choose which one to take. They all looked so good. I finally decided which one I wanted when I got a taste test of a little maple candy. I visited a cute little old fashioned candy store on the streets too!! To finish the day off I had a yummy pancake brunch.
REVIEW OF SWEET WATER HARVEST FESTIVAL 2012
WYE MARSH
by Karine from Stayner, ON
"I recently went to the Sweetwater Festival with my family at the Wye Marsh. I had a great time!! When I got to the Festival we paid for admission which included an all-day pancake breakfast. We ate pancakes, sausages and juice, tea or coffee. It really filled me up!! Then we went outside and we looked at the owls and a couple of hawks. They weren’t caged in and we’re sitting freely outside. My favorite was the great horned owl. Then we learnt how they make maple syrup. It was interesting to see how they did it. That was topped off with some fresh maple taffy!!! Then we headed out to the swan conservatory where the swans roam freely. I learnt about swans and how they got to be there. How some of them were found hurt or how others were born there. I even got a couple feet from a swan that was swimming around. It was funny watching my brother running away from the trumpeter swans!! We then went to the scout cabin where there were kid activities like colouring and face painting. Scouts showed us how to make a fire with a rock and a stick!!! Then we each took a handful of seeds and headed out to the observatory tower. At the top of the tower, we held out our hands and had chickadees eat seeds out of our palm. It was very funny the feel of their prickly feet and I tried really hard not to laugh when they came by. Then we got to make our own bannock grilled over a campfire. It was delicious!! Then we all took a nice walk down the boardwalk. To finish the day off we ate wye bean soup and watched a snake show all while admiring the beautiful quilted hats and savouring the homemade jams that were being sold. I had a great experience at the Sweetwater Festival and I hope to go again next year."
Thank you, Karine!
